The Hangklip Hotel, bathed in the two lighthouse
beams from Cape Point and Cape Hangklip, is the perfect escape for
stressed out City dwellers and tourists. At the end of a stretch
of gravel road, it reminds of the adventure hotels on the Transkei
Wild Coast. In Hangklip, silence and sand combine with colour and
space to serve refreshment to body and soul

The Hotel is situated at the
foot of the Hangklip
Hangklip is an isolated unspoiled stretch of paradise,
just one hour's drive from Cape Town, at the end of the spectacular
Clarence
drive fringing False bay and backed by the majestic Kogelberg
mountains
The
Kogelberg biosphere, 'The heart of the Fynbos Kingdom' is rich
in biological diversity - 1600 plant species can be found here of
which 150 are endemic. It is steeped in history and archaeological
evidence can still be seen of the Koisan strandlopers who fished
from the rocky shores here. Centuries
later, Drosters - runaway slaves and outlaws - took refuge in caves
carved
out by the sea. Local folklore has many tales of ship wrecks, pirates
and cattle thieves too
The mountain assumed military significance as a
sentinel guarding the Eastern stretch of False bay from the threat
of U-boats during World War 2.
The hotel was built by John Pitt in 1939 and used by women of the
armed services manning the radar station against the mountain
